This week’s DIY Friday is one that I haven’t actually done myself, but I have seen both on I SPY DIY and HollyDolly and I fell in love with the idea (which came from the lovely Jewelmint bracelet below) .

I am currently on a hunt for some vintage rings so that I can do this project on myself...as matter of fact, I am in a bidding war for some on Ebay as I type this…wish me luck!

Ok, so here is what you will need and how you do it...

Materials

- assorted vintage ring

-extra charms

-assorted size jump rings

-toggle clasp

-jewelry pliers

Directions (courtesy of Holly Dolly)

~ Simply attach the rings and charms together with the jump rings until you have the look and length you are going for.

~ Be as uniform or random as you want.

When the middle of the week hits, I start to lose motivation for wanting to get dress. I still want to look cute, but I don't really want to have to think about what to wear.

That is when a chiffon blouse, leopard belt and flats come in handy. It gives a chic, effortless feel to a mid-week kind of outfit.

DIY Fridays

This week's DIY Friday is a Bulky Baby Blanket that I found over on the Purl Bee. Since I started knitting over a year ago, I haven't made too much in terms of big projects... a hat here and there, but pretty much that is all I have mustard. However, one of my very best friends is having a baby in March and as part of her present, I wanted to knit a baby blanket. This pattern was exactly what I was looking for and extremely easy to do.

Materials:

4 skeins of chunky soft yarn (any brand or color)

US#15 Circular Needles

The Pattern:

Cast on 51 stitches.

*K1, p1, repeat from * to end of row.

Repeat this row until you have used all 4 skeins of yarn, leaving enough to bind off.

Bind off in k1, p1 pattern, and weave in the ends.

Finished size: 26" x 26"

The pattern calls for a knitted boarder to be added, but I decided to weave pink ribbon through the edges instead. (You can check out the pattern here for the original boarder directions)

Here is how my version came out:

To say yesterday was freezing is an understatement. OMG, was it freezing!! And chilly temps brings out the plaid and the layers because it is a great way to look chic, but stay warm.

This outfit was perfect for that and I love the mixes of red.

Also, can I tell you?

Burgundy is really becoming my go to winter color this season. I just love how rich and gorgeous it looks with everything.

DIY Fridays

How much do you like DIY projects?

Do you search the web or blogs for DIY projects and head over to Michaels (or any craft store) during the weekend to gather supplies?

I have been finding myself doing a different DIY project every weekend and I have decided to add a new series to the blog called, DIY Fridays.

My first DIY Fridays is a knitted turban.

(I found this project over at the blog Jem Knit)

Supplies:

1. size 17# knitting needle (I used a 15# knitting needle)

2.1 skien of thick/bulky yarn (uses less then a skein)

* Note: You can use any weight yarn just change needle size and cast on more.

Directions:

Cast One 8 sts
Working seed stitch:
R1- K1, P1, across
R2- P1,K1, across

Repeat pattern until head band measures 18 1/2" or til it fits your head not to loose or too tight. (When I got about 15" I wrapped it around my head to see how much longer it needed to be..mine is was about 16 1/2".)

Then fasten off , twist piece, and sew ends together.

Pull tight to get the gathered effect.

Enjoy!

P.S. This project takes less than a hour (depending) to do and you have a good amount of yarn left over to make some head band turbans for your friends/family.

Things I Make

I had been coveting over the Snake Orb Pendant from Stella & Dot, but I really couldn't justify spending $79 for it when Christmas and everything else was coming up.

However, I couldn't stop thinking about it and every time I would put on a simple outfit, I would think: "Awe that Stella & Dot necklace would be so perfect right now..." Well, over the weekend I decided to do something about it and make my own version of it. I want to Michaels and bought a 24" circle chain, some fancy clasps, and a few jumper rings. The crystal pendant I already had from an Etsy purchase a few weeks back (I must have known). Put them all together and this is how it turned out:

All for about $13

Now I'd say that was a bargain.

The Weekend Recap

What did you do this weekend?

Anything fun and exciting?...

Caught up on some much needed R&R?...

This weekend was filled with both fun and excitement, and a little R&R- exactly the way I like my weekends to be. On Saturday, it was so gorgeous out (I am talking 60 +plus degrees in January). my friend Kira and I decided to go for a nice hike at Breakheart Reservation. Since it was so gorgeous out, we decided to do the whole 5 miles.

Sunday, I finally took advantage of some great attractions Boston has to offer by going to the Museum of Natural History in Cambridge. It is free for Mass Residents on Sunday from 9am to Noon. I haven't always been one for museums, but as I get older I am really starting to expand my interests; and to be honest, I am so glad I went. It was really fascinating to learn about different animals and evolution of different species.

The rest of Sunday was spent watching football, making a home cook meal, and curling up on the couch watching, Once Upon A Time (my new favorite show).

Color Me Purple

After giving New England an insanely warm Winter, Mother Nature decided to throw a little curve ball in January, and finally bring Winter to us.
These last few days has been extremely cold... BRR!!!... and I am NOT liking it, but

What's For Dinner

One of my New Year's Resolutions is to cook more. The reason I don't cook a lot isn't because I can't, it is more because by the time I get home I am so hungry I just want to eat. I really want to change this, so to make sure I fulfil this resolution, I decided to make it part of my blog by having a section called,

What's For Dinner.

Last night I decided to make Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese. Such a great comfort food when it is ~~chilly~~ FREEZING outside. This is how you make it...

What You Need

1pkg. (12.6 oz.) KRAFT HOMESTYLE Macaroni & Cheese Dinner Classic Cheddar Cheese Sauce

1-1/2 cups chopped cooked chicken breast

1Tbsp. hot pepper sauce for Buffalo wings

1/2 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Make It

HEAT oven to 425ºF.

PREPARE Dinner in large saucepan as directed on package except do not top with Bread Crumb Topping.

TOSS chicken with pepper sauce. Stir into Dinner; spoon into 1-1/2-qt. casserole sprayed with cooking spray. Sprinkle with shredded cheese and crumb topping.

BAKE 5 to 10 min. until cheese is melted.

Add a nice salad, some fresh garlic bread, and there you go...That's What's for Dinner...

Blog-A-Lutions

As 2011 comes to a close and 2012 begins, I have to decided to list a few Blog-A-Lutions I am hoping to accomplish in the new year.

1. Make this blog a little more personal. I am not a very open person when it comes to the Internet, but I want to change that. (Not too open, I don't need stalkers or identity thieves) I would like to give you guys a peak into my every day life (not like its that exciting).

2. To actually post WAY more. Even it is is only glimpse of outfits... I want to get into a better habit of actually blogging.

3. Dedicate more time to commenting on my fellow bloggers' blogs. I read a lot of blogs every day, but I need to really go back to commenting. Some of you have incredible fashion sense or interesting lives that give me such inspiration- I want you to know that.

4. Find more of my own signature style. I go from style to style, but I don't really know what MY actually style is. I would like to explore that more...

My Christmas List

Since I buy a lot for myself throughout the year, my Christmas List seems to be getting smaller and smaller each year, but the things I do add to it are more quality items so I think that isn't so bad.

This year I have really only asked for 2 things...

1. A pair of new Pumas since my last pair is over 7 years old and probably is in need of an upgrade.

2. And some new leather gloves because what fashonista can't use a pair of soft leather gloves.

Making It

Over the weekend I decided to check out Goodwill since I haven't been thrifting and some time now and was going through major withdrawals.
Even before thrift shopping became the "thing" to do, I always loved going to thrift stores and seeing what great bargains I could find. On this trip to the Goodwill, I score this soft cozy sweater from French Connection. It had a little stain on it, but I decided to take a chance and I am so glad I did because that stain came right out with a little soaking. :)

I also score a gorgeous pair of magenta wool trouser pants from French Connection, a cashmere turtleneck from J.Crew and a bucket leather bag from Tommy Hilfiger. All for $21...

Like I said, this is why I love thrifting!!

Another thing I did over the weekend was make this necklace. I had all the materials from another necklace I took apart and decided to string them together to add a new dynamic to my jewelry collection.

Falling Into A New Purse

One of my favorite things about Fall is the clothes. It is the perfect dressing weather and the color combinations are so gorgeous. I love how the rust sweater and plum knit skirt I wore yesterday just radiates Fall.

Also, I couldn't help but pair my new clutch, c/o of Pretty Prissy with this outfit. I love the simpleness of a canvas clutch, but also love the uniqueness of this one with the word "London" stamped across it. It is perfect addition to any daytime outfit...not to mention I think it helps bring attention to my nude pumps. ;)

This skirt is one of my favorites that I own. It is so feminine and flowy, and the jeweled color is absolutely gorgeous!

While browsing the H&M website, I saw this top on one of the models and fell in love. I knew I needed to get to H&M ASAP and that is exactly what I did. After work on Friday, I flew down to my nearest store to pick this baby up. An orange tie-neck blouse for $10... Yes, please!

Also, I love the 70s feel with my flare jeans and just to add a slight edge my leopard wedges. It is great when you can feel like a million bucks in an outfit that cost less than $50.

Keeping Them

I have had these pants for years! I mean probably around 7 years, no joke, and I have never really worn them. I just could never bring myself to get rid of them... something always kept telling me that I would majorly regret it if I did.

This is the first year I am discovering how great these pants really are. They are perfect for the changing weather because they are light, but still have some warmth to them when the weather gets a little chill in it. So, the question is: Am I glad I kept them? Yes I am!

DIY Geode Pendant Necklace

I have been longing for a geode pendant necklace for the longest time, but they are so expensive, so instead of shelling out $40 for one I made one over the weekend for about $12 thanks to Etsy and Michael's.

What do you think?

Also, this necklace was so simple to make. All you need is as followed:

1. Gold jewelry wire to wrap around the geode pendant

2. A long chain

3. An extra piece of chain to attach to the bottom for split necklace effect

4. a jeweled pendant

I wrapped the wire around the geode pendant and attached it to the bronze chain. Then I cut a small piece of the extra chain I had and looped through the bottom so it dangled below the geode pendant. After that, I hooked the brown crystal pendant to the small chain.

And there you go... a geode pendant necklace for around $12.

Even though I love the Summer and am sad to see it go, I do love Fall and was extremely excited to wear my new boots and top. Fall is probably the best season for fashion and I am so glad that it is here...I just wish it wouldn't leave us so fast.

Also, this is the Cleopatra necklace I made over the weekend. It was one of the simplest projects I have done. Buy some jagged beads, gold ball spacers, gold wire and WAL-LAH: a gorgeous diy necklace.

Misikko HANAair Professional Hair Dryer Review

A few weeks ago, Misikko contacted me and asked if I would like to review their HANAair Professional Hair Dryer and I jumped at the chance. I was DYING to find a blow dryer that would not only dry my hair quickly, but prevent frizziness. My hair is natural wavy and a big frizz ball; especially in humid weather; so I wasn't so sure how well the HANA would work. Wow to my surprise, this hairdryer is amazing! ,

(P.S.How adorable is this packaging?!)

Not only did it dry my hair in under 5 minutes (and I have thick hair) thanks to its 2300 Watts power, but no frizzies either. If that isn't a hairdryer that knows its job, I don't know what is. By far, the HANA is one of the best hair dryers I have ever used! Also check out their other professional ceramic straighteners as well as their entire range of salon hair dryers.

Riding the Heat Wave

To say it has been hot is an understatement. It read 104 in my car at 5:00pm, so yeah...I'd say it is HOT. However, I love the heat. I don't know if it because 1. I am always cold or 2. because I live in New England where if you blink you may miss summer. Either way, I am one of the crazy people that think the hotter the better (well maybe not that extreme).

This dress is probably one of the most easiest and coolest dresses I own. It is a nice thin, satin material with an razor tank back and just the right length to be able to wear to work, but still stay nice and cool. I paired it with my orange cardigan for the office because even though it is hot outside; it is freezing in my office!

Atelier Minyon Trunk Show

On Tuesday I was lucky enough to attend the Atelier Minyon truck show at Persona Jewelry in the Hotel Commonwealth in Kenmore Square.

This event was amazing! I got to hang out with a few of the lovely Boston bloggers (Neira and Lei Ann), have some signature cocktails, and look at some gorgeous pieces.

One day when you are around the Kenmore Square area, check them out. They have everything from earrings to bracelet, necklaces to engagement rings; and in price ranges from $50 to $10,000.

I couldn't take my eyes off of some of these items.

My New Watch

I finally found it... my new watch

I have been coveting over a costume gold "men's" watch for some time now, but never really found one that I liked for the price I liked.

However while browsing through Amazon.com, I came upon this lovely item. It is a light gold, with faux diamond accents, and the perfect big face. I got in the mail on Saturday and haven't stopped wearing it since. Oh I just love it! And for $20, how can you go wrong...

Over the weekend, one of my BFF, Abbie and I took a little adventure down to Newport, RI.

Springtime is slowly approaching here in Boston; and in celebration I decided to wear my floral dress that I haven't worn since the Fall (mainly because it is really a Fall-type dress, but hey fall/spring is pretty much the same here in New England).

I am just so in love with my new scarf, I can't stop finding great ways to wear it. Today, I decided to try a new spin on the menswear look by replacing a tie with a scarf.

I even tied just like I would a tie, but loosened it up so it hung below my chest. I love the way this outfit came out....

I love how perfectly this outfit came together. First, I started with my new shoes from Charlotte Russe (how perfect are they?!). Then, I took my beige skirt out of my closet; grabbed my teal cardigan off the hanger; pulled my teal tights from out of storage; grabbed my new rose pink tee out of the bureau. And finally, completed the look with my pink and teal necklace from H&M and chandelier earrings.

Even though it is back to Winter today, Friday was GORGEOUS out. So, in the hope of Spring being around the corner, I decided to forgo the tights and opted for knee socks instead.

Sometimes I feel a little self conscious about wearing knee socks... like it is a little too sexy, but honestly this look is growing on me. Taking A Break

This is the first week since Christmas that we have had a break from the snow. In honor of "warmer" temps, I ditched the jeans, sweaters and boots and opted for a skirt and tights. Oh how girlie and amazing I feel now that I am not stuff into skinny jeans and a chunky sweater.

I got this sweater at Bri's Clothing Swap the other day and I was feeling so excited to wear it with my olive skirt and denim shirt. Of course it is still winter-y outside with all the slush and ice, so I had to opt for boots; but that is ok because I really love these and think it adds a nice rugged look to the outfit.

The Reason I Have Been M.I.A

This is the reason why I have been M.I.A from my lovely little blog...it HASN'T. STOPPED. SNOWING. HERE. IN. 4 WEEKS!!!

Every time I think maybe this week the snow will start to melt and I will get to wear a cute little dress or something besides skinny jeans, a sweater, and boots; we get another 10+ inches. Aahh!!

Some day I will be back...I just hope it is before June...

Snow Boots Just In Time

Thank God for CSNStores.com because of them I was able to dig myself out of the blizzard we had here on Sunday; all while staying nice and toasty warm with my new snow boots.

These boots are from Spring Step and come in both black and brown. I love how they have the faux fur lining inside to keep my feet warm and dry, and a lace up front for a nice tight fit. These boots are perfect for a New England winter... especially when you get 20" of snow in less than 24 hours. Ugh!

Anyways, if you are in the market for some new snow boots, I would highly recommend these... you might love them so much you may end up shoveling everyone in the neighborhood out.. ;)

(P.S. They do run a little small, so I would get the half a size up for extra comfort...)

A few weeks back, I was lucky enough to be asked to review Joe Zee's new style book, The ELLEments of Personal Style. ELLE Magazine is already one of my go-to stops for great fashion inspiration, but to have page after page of amazing style advice and personal inspiration from today's fashion icons is beyond incredible. This book demonstrates the personal styles of so many beautiful women from Lea Michele to Ashley Greene to Diane von Furstenberg, just to name a few. Even though I wish I could post ever single fashion icon in this wonderful book, I thought that would take away from you running out and getting your own copy (*wink, wink*); so instead, I thought I'd give you my thoughts on my three favorite below:

Lea Michele

I love how each page of this book gives you a little insight to your favorite celebrities' closet and personal style advice. I adore how Lea stays away from super tight dresses, but loves them short- this is something that I can absolutely relate to.

Ashley Greene

My favorite thing when looking through Ashley Greene's fashion pages was that she too thinks a classic pair of heels is essential. I think you can make any outfit amazing just by wearing a perfect pair of heels (and we all know how much I love my heels). Diane Von Furstenberg

While reading DVF's pages, the thing that got me the most wasn't her style pages, but her interview. It felt as she let you into a secret part of herself... a part only a friend would get to know. She is one incredible lady!

This is a book you will want to have on your coffee table or night stand for years to come.... especially, on those days when you wake up needing a little extra inspiration...

With running super late yesterday, I had no time to think too much about my outfit; but when you have a pretty floral dress, a cropped leather jacket and black suede ankle boots in your closet, you really can't go too wrong.

No time to do my hair either, hence the beret... also, it was raining yesterday, so it was the perfect way to keep my hair from becoming a ball of frizz.
